Mosquito Management Program

The Gulf Coast Area is loaded with an abundance of water features. The beach, bays, rivers, and local lakes are some of the spots that make where we live so special. The abundance of water coupled with our warm climate make this area of the country a hot spot for mosquitoes. Most people that have spent any time here are well aware of the nuisance and the potential health threat that these insects represent.

Mosquitoes are not unique to the Gulf Coast, and are in fact common across the globe. What you may not realize is that there are many different species of mosquitoes and in some cases there are even varieties within species. Regardless of the species, there are many similarities between them. The adult mosquito is typically ⅛ to ¾ inches long. Mosquitoes lay their eggs in standing water which can range anywhere from lakes, to birdbaths, to most any situation that allows water to pool up. As soon as a rain or irrigation covers the eggs, the larvae will hatch out and in a matter of days they develop into adults. Many varieties of Mosquitoes will remain within a few hundred feet of where they emerged from the larval stage, but some can migrate as far as fifty miles. The mosquito bite is delivered by the female as she requires a blood meal to lay her eggs. These pests are known to carry the microorganisms that cause West Nile Virus, Encephalitis, Malaria, and Yellow Fever. The food preference for many of the mosquito species that we deal with is human blood. You need protection from this pest!
