Spring Pests in the Panhandle

Florida lawnSpring is an amazing time of year, and in the Florida panhandle, we are lucky enough to be able to get outside and enjoy the Spring sooner than residents in other parts of the country. However, just like we enjoy the warming weather, so do the pests that love to call our region home!

In addition to seasonal allergy culprits in the air during the Springtime, such as pollen, there are also many pests that can pose health risks as well. To safeguard ourselves and our families against harmful pests and the dangers they can pose, it is important to be aware of the insects you can expect to see this Spring in our beautiful Panhandle region.

The local pest control technicians of Ensec Pest Control are very knowledgeable about the various pests that plague our region. Contact Ensec today to find out more about how to receive a customized pest control plan.

Fire Ants

Fire ants are more than just a nuisance to our region. Besides causing property, more importantly, they pose health risks to your family and pets. Often mistaken for other types of pests, the most surefire way to identify fire ants is by their mounds. These dome-shaped mounds can house up to 500,000 fire ants!

Fire ants are most known for their painful bites. If their home is disturbed, they will strike by attacking with multiple stings. These stings can cause reactions ranging from mild pain and itchiness to extremely serious allergic reactions.

Yellow Flies

Like mosquitoes, female yellow flies feed on human blood. Their bites are painful, more-so than mosquito bites. In our Florida Panhandle region, the peak months for yellow flies are April-June, and they are most commonly out in the hours immediately following sunrise and preceding sunset. Although these flying pests can cause painful bites to humans, they are more commonly attracted to dogs, cats, and horses.

Bed Bugs

Just like many other pests, the dreaded bed bug flourishes in warmer weather. Additionally, they become more prevalent as many people travel for Spring Break, and these travelers hitch a ride back home on luggage, clothing, bedding, and furniture. Bed bugs cause painful bites and are well-known to be especially resistant to pesticides, which makes infestations very common. Extensive, specialized bed bug heat treatments such as those that Ensec offers provide the most effective means of controlling these harmful pests.

In the Florida Panhandle and Southern Alabama, although termites enjoy our weather year-round, Springtime brings them in droves. These pests are known to wreak havoc on property and are especially troublesome because they are silent assassins. It is of the utmost importance to treat a termite problem as soon as possible before these pests cause thousands upon thousands of damage.

Contact Ensec to protect your property--the structural termite professionals will search for any sign of termites, and recommend a customized treatment plan to get rid of these nasty pests.
